I have never been one of those die-hard romantics. Not that I've never been in love (but more of that in some other post.) I throw a fit when friends drag me to mushy movies. While my pals sob inconsolably i can't stop giggling at the sheer melodrama that's called bollywood romance. Then my best friend gave me The Notebook. (For those who don't know, 'The Notebook' is a romantic novel written by Nicholas Sparks.) & I just fell in love with the concept of being in love. The Notebook is story of a man's undying love for his Alzheimer stricken wife who has no memory of her husband. Just imagine something like that. Loving a person who doesn't remember you at all. (& NO the novel is not a romcom like 50 first dates) Its about how two totally different people come together in spite of coming from two totally different worlds. The story is poignantly poetic. For me, it opened up a whole new perspective towards love & loving someone with all your heart & soul. Here are some excerpts from the book:
"I am nothing special; of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thought, & I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough.". - Noah
"You are the answer to every prayer I've offered. You are a song, a dream, a whisper, and I dont know how I could have lived without you for as long as I have. I love you Allie, more than you can ever imagine. I always have, and I always will." -Noah
I can read this book everyday & still not get enough of it. It just pierces a hole in my heart everytime I read it. Its a tale of love & miracle & how you have to believe in both for them to happen. The Notebook tugs your heartstrings & even the most cynical of a person won't be able to stop herself/himself from shedding atleast a tear.I must say Nicholas Sparks is one of the most gifted writer I've come across. His characters are ordinary people who have extra-ordinary love stories. It has made me believe that love can happen to anyone irrespective of their age, background, differences & situations. It can happen at the most unexpected time of your life & with the most unexpected person. Sparks has taught me how loving someone wholeheartedly can never turn into a bitter feeling of resentment.
Sparks' novels have made such an impact on me about love & relation that I hope someday I get to experience it. & also be the one who loves without any expectations. Because love is something that goes beyond all boundaries.
I will end by thanking my BFF Bijal for introducing me to Nicholas Sparks & always encouraging me to believe in love (even when I was laughing at her face for it). Love you girl. You're truly my bestest! :-*
Tell me which is your favorite Nicholas Sparks novel or any other story that has touched your life. Would love to hear your ideas about love or maybe your love stories ^_^
Love,
Raey

Hey ya bestie.. :) You don't have to thank me for anything... ever....I've got to thank my dad i guess for introducing me to this wonderful world that Nicholas sparks creates every single time. You can always relate to the characters, situations in the books...so real, so honest, so rare....I finally understood what true love meant...love meant that you care for another person's happiness more than your own, no matter how painful the choices you face might be...And its better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all...Keep smiling.. and love everything that life has to offer you..no matter good or bad...That's Life and you'll surely be the winner in the end....
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents are just like the story of the Notebook. They've been married 53 years and my grandma lives in assisted living place for people with Alzheimers. She doesn't know anyone anymore, but my grandpa still goes there everyday to feed her lunch and dinner. True love :)
